Beside the joy, sound has technical aspects as well. One can use sound to extract information, the amount almost only limited by the detectors, not by the sound itself. Neben dem Spass hat Klang auch technische Aspekte. Aus Klang kann man Information gewinnen, in der Menge fast nur begrenzt durch die Detektor-Technik, nicht durch den Klang selber.

E.g. analysing the sound of an earthquake, is the only way to find out the interior structure of the earth. Our view of the interior of the earth becomes more and more refined. The mathematical means to do so is the Fourier Analysis. An other example are machines, which detect the defect of an automobile motor, just by analysing the sound of the motor. Z.B. die Analyse des Klanges von Erdbeben ist die einzige Möglichkeit, die innere Struktur der Erde herauszufinden. Unser Bild vom Erd-Inneren wird dabei immer feiner. Das mathematische Mittel dazu ist die Fourier Analyse. Ein anderes Beispiel sind Maschinen, die den Defekt eines Automotors herausfinden, indem sie den Klang des Motors analysieren.

The same is true for throwing. You will register the effect especially, if you are throwing in the dark. Do you? You see the target only as a sillouhett, and for judging the distance, you have to know the area from daytime. By listening to the sound of the hit, you can clearly judge the quality of the throw. Better than with the eyes! Das gleiche gilt für das Werfen. Sie werden den Effekt besonders bemerken, wenn Sie im Dunkeln werfen. Tun Sie das? Sie sehen das Ziel nur als Silouhette, und um die Entfernung zu schätzen, müssen Sie das Gelände vom Tageslicht kennen. Beim Hören des Klangs eines Treffers kann man die Qualität des Wurfes sehr genau beurteilen. Besser als mit den Augen!

Throwing in the dark has the following nice optical side effect: You see the sparks if occationally one steel hits the other. Im Dunkeln werfen hat ausserdem folgende nette optische Nebenwirkung: Sie sehen die Funken, wenn versehentlich ein Stahl den anderen trifft.

As you see, sound contains an astonishing plenty of information. One thing is the joy, the sound carries. Another thing is the purpose. Wie Sie sehen, enthält Klang eine erstaunliche Menge an Information. Eine Sache ist der Spass, den der Klang transportiert. Eine andere ist der Zweck.

Sound has to do with time. Rotation (of the knife) has to do with rythm. The follow through makes music out of a throw. It connects the moment from the idea to throw with the moment of the hit to one single peace of ongoing without time. (Compare chapter Technique - Follow Through ) Klang hat mit Zeit zu tun. Rotation (des Messers) hat mit Rythmus zu tun. Der Follow Through macht Musik aus einem Wurf.
